Crazy dreams are afoot. Tell me what this one is about.*
*If you say the above line with a Minnesotan accent it rhymes. ;)
I've been remembering more dreams lately. I had a real doosey of a weird one today.
I dreamt I was on a beach. There were lots of people there. Life guards, families, kids soaking up the sun. At the edge of the beach was a dense forest. I was walking and I wandered into the forest, just a few feet. I look up and there was a lion. A massive red-orange lion. It's mane was almost animi-style. I ran back the few feet to the beach and screamed at the top of my lungs "LION!!!!"
Mass panic ensued as folks (even the life guards) ran from the beach. Then there was a man or a woman (I'm not sure) by the edge of the water. I was concerned because he or she wasn't running away. So I went to the person. When I got there I noticed a shark had beached itself on shore. It was a very very blue shark. The person looked at me and said we had to figure out what was inside it. At this point, I was no longer concerned about the lion. But I looked at the person like they were crazy because the shark had sharp teeth! The person showed me they could fold the lips of the shark over it's teeth so it couldn't bite. Once the person had done that, they told me to reach in and pull out what was in it's stomach. I did only to find weird oatmeal type stuff and some strange car parts I didn't recognize. At about this point, I woke up or the dream shifted. I'm not sure.
So bloggy-blog land friends? Any ideas what this one is about? What was strange was how intense the colors were! I'm curious to hear people's interpretations. Is there a trip to the ocean for this Minnesota girl? Or maybe a trip to Africa? LOL

My Cat Snookie
I’ve been in a rut lately when trying to come up with interesting things to blog about. I just can’t seem to find any inspiration. So tonight I have decided to write about the most wonderful, the most amazing, the most … well, just plain crazy thing in my life.
My cat Snookie.
Snookie is a 19 year old Applehead Siamese purebred. She is missing some teeth, so she has 3 fangs. The missing fang causes the upper fang on that side to hang out and look all crazy!
She has no front claws. She meows constantly and she walks into walls. She’s pretty much the most awesome cat you’ll ever meet. So much so that I have written a poem about her and painstakingly recorded 13 life lessons that she begged me to write down for her. Enjoy. (Remember, you can click on pictures to see bigger versions).
Ode to my Cat
My cat loves beer and banana bread,
sits on my head as I lay down in bed.
Curls up on radiators, sprawls on top of toys
Has her favorite pillow and cuddles with boys
My cat loves to run, frolic and play
She seems to have fun throughout the whole day
Pristine and majestic, she crosses her paws
To let us know, these are her laws.
Sleep and eat and nap and bite
the finger that just went out of sight
Sleeps in a ball with her smushed lil face
Peeking through her paws in just the right place
Licking inside your nostril as you fall asleep
Is a bedtime requirement that she must keep
Music is beautiful and that is why
She head butts the window shades late at night
She’s got an attitude that’s just her own
But you know she loves you because
In your lap she feels right at home
Life Lessons by Snookie.
Lesson # 1. I don't run into walls. They run into me.
Lesson # 2. Seriously, stop and smell the flowers... or push them around with your head... or stick your paw in the water... or forget all about them and rub against the monitor. Seriously, it's all good.
Lesson # 3. Sticky, folded down 'I've been asleep for 10 hours' ears are couture.
Lesson # 4. When people do crazy things to try and get your attention, ignore them or insist they feed you.
Lesson # 5. If you don't have a throne, make one.
Lesson # 6. When I meow in the other room, it's not because I'm lost. It's because I'm disappointed that you, once again, failed to follow me.
Lesson # 7. Don't let people touch your feet. Seriously, that's dangerous.
Lesson # 8. I am connected to everything, just as everything is connected to me. Yes, this is why I lick the couch.
Lesson # 9. I. am. batman. *stalk - run - leap - roll - 'OMG, he's got a gun' - run away* I'm not the real batman, I'm not!
Lesson # 10. Remember, the space between the piano and the wall is twice as big when you cross your eyes.
Lesson # 11. When you encounter someone who is crying and you aren't sure how to comfort them, bite them in the face.
Lesson # 12. I meow non-stop in the bathroom because it has great acoustics.
Lesson # 13. My Little Ponies are called 'MY little ponies' because they are mine, all of them, every last one... they are my minions. I love them and I hate them, but mostly I love them. It's important to have minions.
Oh and one last edit... if you'd like to see a Vlog post my husband did that includes a video of me and my cat, check this out. It gets a little long. I won't be offended if you don't watch the whole thing. LOL

The Time of Catholic Descent
Written in the Spring of 2003. This is when the Goddess spoke.
11:48am
How could this be true? She covered her face with her hands, trying to hide any of the emotions swirling in her and around her and out of her. The room was making her dizzy and nauseous; she no longer felt grounded. It was as if nothing would keep her in this world. She looked around at her co-workers. They were surprised, shocked even, but they were grounded. Kijjet grabbed her chair, hoping the contact would prevent her from running away. Drowning out the sounds of her supervisor, telling them not to worry, Kijjet glanced at her watch. Ten minutes were left of the meeting, ten minutes that Kijjet had to stay composed as she felt her entire world torn down piece by piece, a building no longer needed, condemned to decay. She squeezed her hand as a distraction, forcing herself not to think about it. Ten minutes of numbness, ten minutes of forced breaths. The time passed slowly, tortuously because ‘community and friends are what people need at times like this.’ Kijjet only needed an exit, a secret door to obscurity.
12:01pm
“Are you ok, Kijjet? I know how close you are to Vicki. I’m here for you if you want to talk, ok?” The walls of the office began to look wet, releasing the tears Kijjet had not the courage to spill. Christie, her supervisor, did not notice the walls. Her eyes rested fixed on Kijjet.
How to escape, how to escape? Oxygen seemed to vanish as Christie’s worried gaze bored into her. Kijjet scrambled for language to excuse herself, scrambled for breaths she had no will to take. “Oh… don’t worry about me, I’m fine. But I have to go. I have a, uh, an interview in a few minutes for a summer job.” Kijjet turned her head quickly, desperately craving a quick, uneventful departure from the world that no longer existed for her. She needed to be outside, to be alone, to be invisible.
12:03pm
It was cooler than Kijjet expected outside. She drank in the air in large gulps, as she pressed her hand against the cool stone of the archway. The stone was real but Kijjet was unsure of trusting it. She had to find some fake sense of reality, some distraction to elude the hurricane of emotion that tore away at her stomach. She felt the power of it behind her eyes but feared its release. Kijjet knew she would not have the energy to control the gates once they had opened. 12:05. Her interview was in ten minutes. Ten minutes to regain control, ten minutes of tortured, repressed reality.
Kijjet needed a cigarette, a calming force. Something, anything to make her feel normal, real, untouched. She fumbled with her lighter, but soon the air she drank in so readily was contaminated with smoke. A reminder of tortures to come, of tortures already here. She put the cigarette out; it had only given power to the hurricane rumbling inside her. Kijjet sat on a shabby yellow curb, unbothered by the grass-splattered mud. Kijjet touched her face, her hair, her elbows, her knees. She was real no matter how much she wished otherwise. Taking deep breaths, Kijjet forced herself to believe she was capable of normalcy. She soon would have to pretend she was excited about the summer job, pretend that her mind was completely focused on getting the job. She tried to smile, but the fakeness of it left a bitter taste in her mouth, a taste of childhood.
12:15pm
Walking into the group interview, Kijjet was assaulted by happy faces, realities that had not been recently tarnished. She sat down and forced herself to breathe. It wasn’t long before the shared reality of the other interviewees tore down the last remains of normalcy Kijjet clung to. The hurricane could no longer be stopped; there was nothing holding it in. She walked quickly toward the two women in charge of the interview, hoping to release herself before all composure was lost. In a voice that was no longer hers, full of holes, emptiness, and defeat, Kijjet spoke to her potential employer. “Deb… I’m sorry. I can’t do this today. I found out today that… someone very close to me is… sick… and I just can’t be here right now. I’m sorry.” Kijjet left the room before the looks of concern could penetrate her shell; tearing down the layers of strength she had forced herself to wear.
12:18pm
She reemerged outside but it was no longer Kijjet. She was lost in the storm that consumed her, almost drowning in the harsh waters of the storm. Kijjet only knew two things; she had to stay outside and she had to stay alone. Inside, the walls caved in, crowding her, squeezing her lungs of breath. People, tore her apart even further with concern, with unwanted sympathy. Kijjet walked without direction, turning every time she approached someone. She needed to take refuge behind something solid, something unmistakably real and someplace that the sun could force her to breath, could force the chill of uncertain death out of her lungs.
12:32pm
When she awoke from the haze that had contained her, worsened by her unwillingness to confront it, she found herself on metal steps. With her back against a building, she realized she was hidden in the shadows of the emergency exit steps behind Whitley hall. Something, a force much greater than herself had led her here, knowing what she needed. An emergency exit. Wiping the remaining tears on the dingy remnants of cloth that had once formed the cuffs of her jacket, Kijjet began to feel an uncomfortable reality slip in. The reality, although awkward, allowed her mind to process little by little the purpose of this punishment.
Like so many other times of emotional exodus, His voice found her. His voice echoed inside her head, saying things she had always accepted. “You must go through this. This is but another test of your faith. This is a test of Vicki’s faith as well. She will be alright, if she believes.” The voice sparked a chill that ran the course of her back, but for the first time, it sparked an anger that vibrated in her chest. For the first time, she questioned the voice’s authority, questioned His validity and knew in her anger that He was wrong.
In her desperate search for truth, Kijjet shook her body to let loose the voice of a god that had ruled her instead of accompanying her on her journey. Inside her head, her voice out-powered His, as she screamed “NO” to His lies. The very moment her scream had subsided, a new voice arouse from His ashes. The new voice spoke to her in soft feminine tones and Kijjet could feel its power against her shoulder.
“Look around you, Kijjet. See the world. Do you see? Do you see the colors mingling with each other? Do you see the life present in everything? It all works together. You cannot separate the rain from the sky, or the bark from the tree. There is a delicate balance, Kijjet. The dark and the light, the good and the bad… they are equal in their opposition and are equally needed. Should the world always be ruled by the sun, we would not know to miss the presence of the moon. Your struggle is the same. Would you know so deeply your love for Vicki, if this struggle had not beset her? Kijjet, you are not powerless. For we are all connected, and thus can affect all we are connected to. There are no distinct lines separating us. Look at the world, Kijjet. See yourself in everything around you. It is as much a part of you, as you are a part of it. Know that… and your power is found.”
Like a combination long set in motion, the final number clicked in place and Kijjet did see. With an understanding she was not fully aware of, she knew what she must do. Off her jacket she took the red carnation from the previous days “Take back the Night” march. Still guided by the voice of the new goddess, she infused her love into the petals of the carnation, releasing them into the world. Knowing they would find Vicki. A calmness settled within her as she watched the petals dance with the wind. Breast cancer would not win Vicki’s life. Vicki’s strength combined with Kijjet’s love would overcome the darkness ahead.

New Daily Meditative Practice
I’ve started a new daily meditation practice. It is interesting how it started. Who would have thought that my solution to a daily frustration would turn into a meditation practice? I’ve been doing this daily meditation practice for over a week now and it really adds something to the flow of my day. I work from a home office and because work is always close by, it can be hard to transition from “being at work” to “being at home”. Before I started this daily meditation, I would constantly check my work computer in the evenings. “Hmm I wonder if so and so responded to this” etc. And some days it felt like I never really stopped working.
Now there is a clear transition period between work hours and home hours. This meditation practice gets me away from my work computer when work should be done. It gives me some mental space to think about the day, what has already happened – what I have left that I want to accomplish – what I should make for dinner. I also feel more grounded when I am through and I feel like I have accomplished something good for my family.
What is this wonderful daily meditation practice you ask? Well, it is something EVERYONE can do. Are you ready?
It’s the …………………………………………………… DISHES!
Our dishwasher is probably from the 90s and the whole process just seems to take so much time. And half the time, a good portion of the dishes don’t even get clean! One day I just got sick of it and decided to turn our dishwasher into one MASSIVE drying rack. And you know what, I haven’t looked back since. Before, it would take one to two days to have the dishwasher be full enough to warrant running a load of dishes. Then you’d have to wash the dishes, then you’d have to open it up and let it dry, then you’d have to dry the pools of water that were left on top of these brown cups we have (gross), then you’d have to carefully inspect everything as you put it away because 2 out of 3 times some grit from the dishwasher would be left on and you’d have to do an additional quick wash. Then you’d start the whole cycle all over again.
Now we use far less dishes because I wash them every day, so it is a manageable size to wash and to put away later. The dish washer is always “clean dishes” so we no longer have the discussion “Is the dishwasher dirty or clean?” All the dishes and pots and pans get clean the first time around. And I use the soapy water to clean the counters at the end of it all too. Plus (and this is the big PLUS) it’s very meditative. I relax as I do the dishes, I process thoughts (and there have been a lot lately!) and I just learn to BE in the moment with my hands soapy and the rhythmic clatter of dishes as I toss them in the rinse water. Sometimes even Ni will help me rinse and place stuff in the drying rack, which gives us a chance to just talk and be present, in the moment, together.
I used to hate dishes. Now there are so many benefits to doing them, I really don’t mind them at all.
Is this daily meditative practice for everyone? Probably not. Will I continue doing this? As a true Minnesota would say……………… You betcha!

May Day Fun
So I am not all about formal rituals on wonderful holidays like May Day; it just isn’t for me. I think some of the rituals that others choose to do are absolutely lovely, but for me I like to sit back, relax and do a few special traditions or activities.
May Day has always been very special for me. Every year growing up, my mother and I would make flower baskets out of construction paper, fill them with flowers and leave them on my grandma’s and other folks door knobs. Then we would ring the bell and ……………………RUN! It was a wonderful and magical day and we would end by visiting with my grandma. May Day was my grandma’s favorite holiday. She seemed to just glow with happiness every first day of May. Sometimes I wonder if she wasn’t secretly witchy.
May Day is the one pagan holiday I was able to celebrate as a Catholic and I didn’t feel guilty about it (mostly because my mom and grandma loved it so much). As I transitioned out of Catholicism, I learned about Beltane and its meaning. But I could never transition to calling it Beltane. “May Day” just has too much personal meaning for me to call it by any other name.
May Day has always been a very lucky day for me as well. In college, a number of witchy friends and I made a May Day pole. As we collapsed from rounds and rounds of dancing and weaving, I laughed, settled into the grass, looked down and saw a four leaf clover. Well, let me say, that baby was MINE! LOL
I was hoping to have a bonfire tonight (well, modestly contained fire) but it’s not very sunny or warm or dry this weekend. So I decided to bring some of the green wonderfulness outside indoors. I decided to paint an old spaghetti jar (leftovers from our table displays at our wedding). As I got going I had the most wonderful idea. I decided to paint the Goddess symbol on one side of the glass jar and carefully line up the God symbol on the other side. So when you look at the jar a certain way, the two symbols line up! Here are a few photos of the jar once painted.
Then I took my bare little feet (and I mean little, like size 5.5) outside to walk around on the wet grass. We have some serious onions invading our yard for years now, can’t contain them and we don’t want to use chemicals so I didn’t feel too bad cutting a bunch of onion leaves for my May Day jar. Then I snipped two tulips. We have lots of tulips (thanks to my step-grandpa’s obsession with them – we bought my grandma’s house from her – the other grandma, not the May Day grandma although I love them both). Even though there are lots of tulips, only a few have actually opened and bloomed. I felt guilty cutting those that have turned yellow but haven’t opened yet. So I cut the only two I knew had at least opened and seen the sun. Add in a few tulip leaves and we have the wonderful May Day jar shown below.
From there, the May Day jar made its way into my office/sacred space. I tried the May Day Jar out on my altar but it didn’t fit very well and just didn’t “feel” right. So it moved to an impromptu casual altar on my dresser. And I like it much better. There is something nice about a casual altar space.
Oh yeah, and for those who remember me saying I got a wonderful quartz with pink tourmaline, here’s a photo of the lovely! And that's my youngite in the front.
Happy May Day to one and to all!

Inspirations and magical workings
As always, I was inspired by a post by the lovely Aine over at The Deepest Well. She was talking about candle magic and as I read, I realized it has really been quite a long time since I have done any candle magic. Years of not being able to have candles in various rentals and (mostly) college dorms left it's mark on me and I just haven't been very drawn to candles in my day to day practice.
Being that I've been in a funk for a bit, I decided giving some good old candle magic a go might be a good idea. And boy, was it! It's so easy to forget just how GOOD doing magic makes you feel. (You see, I am very forgetful.) I feel energized and wonderful right now. Not only did I just pull off some wonderful candle magic, I also worked with rune images for the first time. I carved runes into the candle, well... first concentrating my intentions while cleansing the knife in my Goddess and God candle (yeah, even God was invited to this party! I was surprised too.) and then carving the runes.
Anyway, my candle is burning brightly at the moment (figuratively and literally) and I will be relighting it for days to come.
This whole experience makes me want to talk about the power of not planning magic. Or what I call intuitive magic. I've done spells where you think about all the words you'll say, all the actions, the colors, the oils. And of course, candles and herbs and bears, oh my! And these spells can be quite pleasant, but I have always found them lacking power. For me, the most dense and real power comes from on-the-spot-plan-it-as-you-go intuitive magic. I find that when I don't plan the exact words, they come out more beautifully. When I don't plan all the color correspondence and just go with what makes sense in the moment, it has more meaning and more power. I encourage anyone interested in giving "not-planning" a try. I'd love to hear your thoughts too. Have you had similar experiences?
I feel like my energy is renewed and I am ready to go! You know what that means? Hopefully I'll get Gumbo Soul's palm reading to her soon. I said I would deliver it to her yesterday, but my energy (and intuition) was too out-of-whack. :) Tomorrow is looking like a good day to finish it!
Night everyone!

Good Luck - the weekly edition
Hi all! Just a quick Sunday post to share what Manifesting Good Luck cards I drew this week. Enjoy! I really think Thursday and Friday’s cards are the main lessons for the week. They seem very relevant to all the teenage drama going on this week. :)
Manifesting Good Luck Cards: Growth and Enlightenment by Deepak Chopra.
Sunday
I recognize that my experience of reality is unique.
When I recognize that no one experiences reality in exactly the same way, or responds to it in the same way, I am free.
Monday
I fell asleep while watching an episode of Castle (LOL) so I did not draw a card on Monday.
Tuesday
I am on the path of enlightenment.
I know I’m on the path of enlightenment when I witness more synchronicity in my life.
Wednesday
My inner self is my point of reference when I make decisions.
When I learn to rely on my inner self to decide, I know I’m on the right track – regardless of anyone else’s opinion.
Thursday
Whatever I put my attention on grows stronger.
The more attention I put on what I want in my life… the more what I want in my life will show up.
Friday
I am where my awareness is.
When I focus my awareness on my own responses and perceptions, I see the truth of a given situation.
Saturday
I choose to get in touch with my emotional pain.
When I get in touch with my emotional pain and learn to express it (appropriately), I can release it.
-----
If you would like to purchase your own cards, I did a little research and they are available on Amazon AND as an iPhone app. If you are *really* interested, there's also a YouTube video about the iPhone app.

Good Luck - the weekly edition
Long ago when I worked in the good ole bookstore, I bought a box of Good Luck cards. Actually, you know what, I don't even live in that state anymore so why don't I just tell you the name of the wonderful bookstore. If you are close by, you should go to East West. :)
Back to the cards... I bought a deck of Manifesting Good Luck Cards: Growth and Enlightenment by Deepak Chopra. East West had demo decks so you could look through the cards. This deck really spoke to me. The sayings and artwork are wonderful. So I scrounged up my money and bought them. I used to draw them each day with a work collegue. We would draw them like Tarot cards, shuffling, putting our energy in and pulling out "the message we needed to hear." In the process of recreating my sacred space a few weeks ago, I found the cards and have been pulling one before bed each night.
It's becoming a good practice in intuition as I try to really "listen" to what card speaks to me and choose that one. I also find it's a reflective, calming way to go to bed. Now that I have a wonderful little bloggy-blog to share things on, you wonderful bloggy-blog friends get to find out what cards I drew!

Sunday
I am free.
I recognize that by embracing the unknown, I buy a ticket to freedom.
Monday
Life is magical and remarkable.
When I view life as magical and remarkable, I befriend Lady Luck.
Tuesday
I learn from my mistakes.
When I honor and accept my mistakes, I can release them and move on.
Wednesday
Life is a grand paradox.
There are many points of view in our universe, yet the ultimate goal of human endeavor is to reach unity consciousness. That is life's greatest paradox.
Thursday
I move beyond past conditioning.
I experience true freedom when I accept, understand and move on from the conditioning of the past.
Friday
I can choose karma or freedom.
When I understand that karma is simply a learned condition - it is not my destiny - I can choose to be free of it.
Saturday
I stop all worrying.
When I stop worrying, things don't bother me anymore, and I become lighthearted and full of joy.
