Transformation

Bird Feet at Shoreline 2006
Ma breaths heavy sighs, enjoying the give and take of her human form. This day the sun is shining and the wind is rejoicing. She stands watching the complexity of her creation, enjoying the smell of mud that lingers in the wind stroked air. She is pleased. Today is her day and the joy reaches through her fingertips as she strokes the unprovoked air. On a whim, she transforms herself into a regal bird. Her bird-self enjoys the sun warming her feathers and she decides to leave a thank you note so that others may know of the joy she has created. With her bird feet she dances. An invisible pattern forms in the mud and she follows it, knowing full well the artwork of tiny bird feet signatures that she leaves behind.

She hears the laughter of a little girl flying by on her new red bicycle. She lifts her bird head in the direction of the sound and is transformed again into the very essence of the girl's laughter. She rides with the girl, escaping into the wind with every giggle, every squirm of delight. The girl feels like a goddess, flying across the small world she inhabits. She unknowingly prays to the wind, begging it not to stop but to keep propelling her forward so her dream-state of flying can continue. Ma hears her prayer and transforms herself into the wind. She pushes herself gently onto the girl's back. The girl petals faster, too innocent to be afraid of falling, knowing somewhere inside that she is soaring with the goddess. She is unstoppable, ready to spread her arms and fly. And Ma silently beside her, rejoices in the laughter.

  1. This is beautiful! Your words touched me about the little girl feeling like a goddess. Nicely done. :)

  4. Thank you! I wrote this because I love the notion that the Goddess doesn't always take herself too seriously. That following the flow of our own desires is another way to honor the Goddess. And seeing how the Goddess can do anything, the flow of her desires knows no limitations (and can be quite fun to write about)!
